Borobudur

Amazing World - Beach & Mountain

Borobudur Temple is very magical, described the Ages of Man in the past to create a monument as complex, spectacular, as well as nice as Borobudur. piled stones one by one to form a high-rise buildings and mansions. Every part have meaning, which is why this temple belonging to the magic world.

At Borobudur, there are statues of Buddha with six kinds of different image or mudra.
1. Bhumisparcamudra or "calling the earth to witness." The position where the Buddha's right hand touching the earth, placed above the right knee, with fingers pointing downward. This mudra symbolizes the Buddha's request to the God of the Earth to witness behaviors that Mara was right when he denied the allegations. Mudra is typical for Aksobhya Dhyani Buddhas.
2. Abhayamudra. Buddhist position where his right hand placed on the right thigh, with your palms facing upwards, a position that represents the effort penghalauan against fear. This is the Dhyani Buddha Mudra Amoghasiddi, North Buddha.
3. Dhyanamudra or "meditation". Open and placed both hands in his lap, where his right hand above the left hand and both thumbs touching each other. This Mudra ascribed Amitabha, the Buddha Dhyani West.
4. Varamudra or "charity". Rotated into the top right hand and fingers down and placed in the right knee. Dhyani Buddha is Ratnasambhava, South Buddha.
5. Virtakamudra or position carefully weighing the decision, depicted with his right hand raised position above the right knee, with your palms facing upwards, and the tip of the thumb touching the index finger. Dhyani Buddha is referred to here is a Buddhist from all directions.
6. Dharmacakramudra, or "wheel rotation Law", which symbolizes Sakyamuni's first sermon in the Deer Park at Benares. Both hands held at chest, left hand under your right hand, and rotated upward with the thumb touching the ring finger, ring finger right hand while touching the left little finger. Position thus giving the impression that the hand wheel rotation, and connected with Vairocana, Dhyani Buddha Peak.

Relief at Borobudur Temple, which is unique and beautiful reliefs carved into the surface of the walls, and along the alley or side street.
In the first phase construction of Borobudur, there are a series of reliefs on the feet of the building. Illustration text taken from Karmavibhangga (Law of Cause and Effect). The text reflects the good faith and in return, but more emphasis on severe punishment for those who intend evil as to kill animals, fight or slaughter.
The walls of the first gallery was decorated by four series of reliefs: two on the walls of the foyer, and two on the main wall. The second series of wall reliefs contained in the text is taken from Jatakas porch, or The Story births. It tells tales of life Shakyamuni (Gautama Buddha) in various incarnations before finally born as a human. The theme of these stories is self-sacrifice as a means of obtaining the good and the birth of a better in his next life, by achieving nirvana as the ultimate goal.
Level of the lower main walls are decorated with the birth of another story, which tells the life of other people besides Shakyamuni who also obtained enlightenment. Unlike Theravada Buddhism, where in it is believed that only one person who can get in this age of enlightenment, the followers of Mahayana Buddhism believe many creatures that have reached this phase. This text is called Avadanas.
At this level the main wall is higher, his first gallery showing reliefs that tell the life of Sakyamuni (Siddharta Gautama) throughout her life as an ascetic prince who became a teacher. These reliefs began with Buddha while he was in heaven before his last reincarnation, and ends with the first ceremony in Deer Park at Benares. This text is called Lalitavista.
The fifth and final series of three gallery occupies the top of Borobudur. Text is used as a source of inspiration called Gandavyuha. This engraving contains the story of a young man, the son of a trader, named Sudhana, who learn from one teacher to another teacher in the search for enlightenment. Most of the reliefs showing scenes boy traveling with a variety of transportation including trains horses and elephants, as well as the scene when she knelt in front of the teacher (kalayanamitra, or "best friend"), whether men, women, children and Bodhisattvas. Sudhana exploration ended in the Palace of Maitreya, Buddha of the future, at the peak of Sumeru mountain, where he was given lessons and have different views.
Last series of reliefs contained in the upper terrace is taken from this text continued, called Bhadracari, where Sudhana vowed to become a Bodhisattva, and follow the example of certain named Samantabhadra Bodhisattva.
Bhadracari; "And then later, King Buddha will come, who will receive the enlightenment in the future, such a noble king Maitreya and so forth, and finally Samantabhadra, the Buddha of the Future"
Placement of relief at the highest level of the temple shows that this is the text of the most respected by the founder of the Borobudur. Relief scenes seem designed to encourage Sudhana pejiarah to follow the example when climbing a mountain, which symbolizes the highest goal and source of wisdom

In the history of its development in Indonesia, Buddhism is a religion that is popular in Central Java, namely between the years 750-850 AD. A fairly short time indeed. But despite this, the Buddha has left the big monuments in Indonesia, one of which is the temple of Borobudur, a Buddhist monument of the greatest and most spectacular in the world.

Borobudur temple is located in the middle of Java Island, 41 km to the northwest of Yogyakarta, and 7 km south of Magelang. Kedu plains surrounding it is often referred to as the "Garden of Java" (The Garden of Java), because this land is very fertile, and its population is also very diligent. This plain is surrounded by four two mountains, namely Mt Cleft (3371 m) and Sindoro (3135 m) in the northwest, and Merbabu (3142 m) and Merapi (2911 m) in the northeast.

Borobudur Temple was built by Samaratungga Syailendra Dynasty for more than 50 years, namely in the year 778-856 AD, 300 years before Angkor Wat (Cambodia), and 200 years before Notre Dame.

Overall, Borobudur reaching 42 m high, but then once restored, the height is reduced to only 34.5 m, and has dimensions of 123 x 123 m. Borobudur has 10 floors or levels. First to the sixth floor of a rectangular shape, and the seventh to the tenth floor of a circle.

This temple faces east, and consists of 1460 panels, each of which has a width of 2 m. Area 2,500 m2 entire walls, and filled with relief. The number of panels that have existing reliefs 1212. According to research, the number of about 504 Buddhist statues, including the statues that are still intact and that has been destroyed. The restoration of Borobudur was done twice, namely from the years 1905 - 1910, and the latter in the year 1973-1983.

Borobudur was built for approximately 50 years, through several stages. During the design of Borobudur was also amended several times.
The first stage
The first phase probably started around the year 780 AD At this stage, a small building with three terraces piled established when another building was built and then destroyed. The building was probably originally designed as a multilevel pyramid.
The second phase
At this stage, the foundation of Borobudur widened, covering the original foot. In addition, the number of terraces is also reproduced, including two rectangular patio terrace and one round.
Third Stage
Changes more thoroughly carried out, whereby the top removed and replaced with a circular terrace with a series of three new circular patio. Stupa was also built on top of these terraces.
The fourth and fifth stages
There was little change in the monument, including the addition of new reliefs and statues of change on the stairs and along the road. Remain the same symbols on the monument, and changes only at the majority of the decorations.

Borobudur Development Notes
additional foot and leg covering the original. Additional feet, as seen now, is very simple and is often called the terrace width. These cover a wide terrace at the foot of the original relief, which consists of 160 frames. In some frames there is a short article as simple guidelines for letters pemahatnya in Old Javanese. It turned out that the words used was also found in the book Mahakarmavibhangga which includes stories about how the law of karma in life. Relief at the foot of the original depict everyday life that sometimes memorable villain, seronok, and so forth.

Treasures of Rome and Vatican City

Amazing World - City

Puffy clouds hang suspended over St. Peter’s Square as I arrive before the throngs of pilgrims. It’s just before 11 a.m., the sun beaming its powerful June light onto the sixteenth-century facade of St. Peter’s Basilica. Pigeons scurry as I walk through the sparsely crowded square – an elliptically shaped plaza embraced by its nearly 300 Doric-style columns, each topped with a statue of a saint. It seems a bit odd, I wonder, since I recall seeing this immense plaza always packed with crowds. But when I enter St. Peter’s, I find out why. The crowds are already inside amidst an anxious lull of whispered anticipation.

As I gaze upward to admire the sturdy marble columns and impressive dome emblazoned with seemingly ageless frescoes, I hear something I will never forget – and it takes me only an instant to realize what it is. I hear the simultaneous gasps from the few thousand people inside ripple through St. Peter’s spacious nave. It’s a two or three-second melodic cacophony of everyone’s hopes, prayers and reverence – the sounds of surprise and deep admiration as Pope John Paul II walks out onto the papal alter.

Snapping cameras create a whirlwind of mechanized clatter. Heads bob up and down as pilgrims stand tall on their toes, trying to take in every second of this special mass. The Pope’s voice is strong yet gentle, and although he’s speaking in Italian, no language barrier can mask his message of peace and joy, especially on this day.

My cherished moments seeing Pope John Paul II actually took place a decade or so ago during my first visit here. Rome may now be awash with the presence of a new pope, but today I find this city still remains the exciting culmination of nearly 2,700 years of history – from the weathered arches and stone-chipped columns of the Roman Forum, to Renaissance palaces and hand-sculpted Baroque fountains. It’s where Michelangelo’s frescoes – some of the world’s greatest artworks – glorify the ceiling and walls of the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. And jutting off the popular Baroque-era Spanish Steps, the narrow Via Condotti is lined with boutiques and shops where 21st-century high fashion also defines the ambiance of this most ancient town.

Colosseum and Forum

Amazing World - City

Blades of grass and wildflowers now protrude from the rows of crumbling stone walls that were once underground passages of the Roman Empire’s prominent amphitheater, the Colosseum. I behold the weathered columns and arches, astonished how a third and fourth level have remained intact on one side of this enormous arena for more than 19 centuries. Opened around 80 AD, this is where armor-cloaked gladiators fought to the death – where pouncing lions mauled both the fearless and fearful. Today, however, it’s quiet inside except for the occasional buzzing of a distant noisy scooter. As I look around, I see a man in a quiet gaze who, perhaps like me, can only imagine the thunderous jeers from the crowds of more than 50,000 that once sat here.

The Colosseum sits within the Roman Forum, which was once the heart of the Roman Empire. “The Roman ruins represent our past, our heritage and the evidence that everything will come to pass,” points out Paola, my tour guide. “In fact, the Colosseum was the prototype of stadiums we have today.”

The Forum is the sight of some well-preserved arches and surviving stone columns of temples long gone. One standing seemingly untouched for 1,800 years is the Arch of Septimius Severus, erected in 203 AD as a monument to victories in battle led by the arch’s namesake, a second-century emperor. Another ruin catching my eye is where the House of the Vestal Virgins once stood. It’s where I see young visitors sunning themselves on brick ledges along a peaceful courtyard. Only a few walls remain of the two and three story buildings that once housed women who took a vow of chastity – those virgins still depicted to this day by the eroded and headless statues lining the courtyard.

Rome’s best preserved reminder of its ancient civilization, however, is not within the Roman Forum, but just a short walk away. From the outside, the Pantheon’s immense, columned portico may seem like those of other temples. But as I walk inside, this architectural phenomenon reveals Roman engineers knew what they were doing. Built around 120 AD by the emperor Hadrian, its renowned feature is its enormous dome with a round opening at the top called the oculus. For centuries, the oculus provided the only light to illuminate its spacious atrium, which includes statues and the tombs of Renaissance old master Raphael and two Italian kings.

About Singita Game Reserves

Singita (‘place of miracles’) is world-renowned for providing the best safari experience in Africa. The balance of hospitality, conservation and community is what sets Singita apart, and has been at our core from the very beginning.

Our Philosophy
The balance of hospitality, conservation and community is what sets Singita apart, and has been at our core from the very beginning. Since the early 1900s, when the Bailes family first had the vision of what is Singita today, we have been able to share a unique part of the world in a manner which is highly respectful of the natural environment.

Singita also believes in ‘fewer beds in larger areas’: the idea that a minimal number of guests would have little impact on the land and its fauna and flora. This benefits the environment but also makes for up-close, intimate experiences for guests – with numerous opportunities where they can interact with their surroundings and learn more about our conservation principles.

Another important focus of Singita is dedication to our local communities and to assist in generating prosperity and social upliftment. Thus far, a number of successful development initiatives have made a significant difference to the lives of many people surrounding our properties.

Our History

The heritage of Singita can be traced back to 1925, when James Fawcett Bailes first purchased a pristine tract of land in the Lowveld (the present-day Sabi Sand Reserve). It has remained in the family and his dream to preserve a large piece of land and protect its magnificent wildlife, lives on today.

In the early 1990s, James Fawcett Bailes’ grandson, the current owner of Singita, undertook to focus on preserving his grandfather’s legacy. Using 1930s aerial photographs, he undertook to maintain and restore the land to its original condition with the help of environmentalist Dave Wright (who has overseen its revitalisation since 1978). He also decided to build an exclusive game lodge offering unsurpassed luxury and wildlife experiences. In 1993, Ebony, the first Singita lodge, opened its doors. Following its success, Singita created four more game lodges in South Africa.

In recent years, Singita’s signature has extended beyond South African borders to Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Singita Grumeti Reserves is located in northern Tanzania, on the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park – Africa’s No. 1 World Heritage Site. Singita’s most recent addition is Pamushana Lodge in the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in Zimbabwe, where – along with the Grumeti Community and Wildlife Conservation Fund – Singita is supporting an ambitious relocation initiative of the endangered black rhino.

Sustainability
Singita is committed to making a sustainable difference to local communities and to protecting the environment and wildlife. To date, a number of successful projects have come to fruition, including the building of schools, micro-financing of small businesses, supporting agricultural initiatives as well as training people in the conservation and hospitality sectors. Many of our guests express an interest in contributing towards such initiatives and we gratefully facilitate this.

Community
Singita has a strong bond with our local communities. Many of our staff live locally and are transported to and from their homes on a daily basis, and most of our staff are ex-pupils of the local schools which we support. We have therefore pledged to undertake projects that empower the local people, using resources at our disposal. This includes providing funds, access to the reserves, expertise and getting involved in social outreach projects. We also deliberately manage our lodges in a way that maximises the benefits to local communities so that they can experience the positive effects of eco-tourism.
Our guests are often keen to learn more about African culture. As a result of our community involvement, we are able to share with them an active and positive community which is making strides in improving its situation.

Conservation
At each of our lodges we have dedicated teams whose sole focus is to preserve the land and to protect and increase the wildlife to match its natural carrying capacity. This includes environmental care and anti-poaching units.
Our Guiding teams are selected on the basis of their passion and knowledge of the bush and then deliberately up-skilled by our Head of Guide Trainng and Development to ensure our guests have rich, educational and enjoyable experiences during their time with us.

Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni Lodges are found along the secluded eastern reaches of the Kruger National Park – a remote wilderness area renowned for its lion prides.

Singita Kruger National Park is situated where two rivers meet, in an exclusive game-rich 33 000 acres concession in the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Boasting the highest concentration of wildlife in the entire park, including the ‘Big 5’, the area is also known for its majestic Mountain Pride of lions and unique Euphorbia trees.

Offering contemporary African chic, Singita Lebombo Lodge is a celebration of light and comfort with intrinsic touches that delight the senses. Structurally inspired by an eagle’s nest the 15 loft-style suites perch high above the N’wanetsi River. A spectacular cliffside pool offsets views of the Lebombo Mountain foothills. Nestled low on the Sweni River, the more intimate Singita Sweni Lodge boasts six exclusive suites on the water’s edge. Expressing a distinctly avant-garde African style, the lush surroundings blend beautifully with Sweni’s charm.

What to Bring

Since we want your safari experience to be perfect and completely comfortable, we recommend a few items that we believe you should remember to bring along:

• From June to September be sure to pack a few warmer items for cooler mornings and evenings. Days are warm, but a jacket/fleece will be needed for the safaris.
• From October to December temperatures rise and cool, light clothing is once again recommended.
• Try to keep colours neutral for the safaris. Dark colours such as navy blue and black tend to attract the tsetse flies and other bugs.
• Comfortable walking shoes, track shoes or boots will be suitable as well as sandals to wear around at meals and within the lodge area.
• Shorts or skirts and short-sleeve shirts for the warm midday periods.
• Dinners are casual, except at Sasakwa Lodge which lends itself to smart/casual evening attire.
• Swimming costume.
• Sun block, sun hat, sunglasses and lip balm.
• Mosquito / insect repellant.
• Malaria prophylaxis (see our note on Health matters.)
• Extra pair of correction glasses (if you wear them).
• Contact lens solution and an extra set of contact lenses (if required).
• Cameras, binoculars and your favourite film. We do sell film at the lodges but our stock is very limited.
• Spare memory card if you use a digital camera.
• Video camera and a spare battery. (Batteries can be recharged in your suite; electricity voltage is 220V. Power converters and spare video cassettes are available on request).
• Each room is equipped with bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer and basic amenities.
We hope that this little checklist will help with your packing. As this is a time for you to get away and enjoy peace and tranquility, formal attire is not required. Wishing you a fantastic bush and wildlife safari with us!
